Salama Nasib

Biography

A printmaker and emerging Emirati artist, Salama Nasib pushes the boundaries of the technique. She uses new approaches to articulate the ongoing dialogue between her heart and brain, translating these memory-fuelled exchanges into works that are both sumptuous and delicate. These renderings and translations are acts of remembrance, often surreal, they borrow from mythology and her own life.

Nasib holds a Bachelor’s degree in visual art from Zayed University. She has exhibited at local and international venues, including Tashkeel, Ara Gallery and Rira Gallery, as well as at The Venice Biennale, The Meridian International Center in Washington DC and The Printmaking Center of New Jersey. She undertook the inaugural Salama Bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship, in partnership with the Rhode Island School of Design. Now a full-time artist, she previously worked as a studio coordinator at Tashkeel, where she stayed abreast of the latest Emirati art trends while managing seven studios, organising artistic and collaborative workshops and co-curating upcoming exhibitions.
