Aisha Juma

Biography

After a career in landscape design, Aisha Juma returned to her artistic practice inspired by its capacity to bring together creativity and traditional knowledge. She earlier pursued visual arts through academic study, graduating with a Bachelor’s of fine art from the Faculty of Fine Art in Cairo majoring in monumental sculpture, before pursuing studies at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and then a Master’s in art, society and publics at the University of Dundee, UK.

Her artistic identity is accumulated via a sophisticated visual language, comprising the lexicon of her environment and elements of her cultural heritage. In her works, natural elements interact and are often instilled with the tranquility of balanced and harmonious elements. Her mindful approach contends with concerns such as the relationship between inner and outer space.
