(English) Mohamed Al Mazrouei

Biography

Mohamed Al Mazrouei studied ancient languages and philosophy at college but didn’t complete his education. He moved to Abu Dhabi in 1986 where he worked for The Cultural Foundation and established himself as a prominent artist, writer and photographer as well as manager of the Emirates Writers’ Union. He has written many books of short stories and poems. His art – painting in a signature Expressionist style – allows the viewer to enter the world of his vast imagination. He is interested in figures and colour as well as attempting to achieve a balance. Al Mazrouei has held several solo exhibitions in the Middle East and has participated in many group exhibitions both locally and abroad. Exhibitions include ‘Maidens of Fair’, Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (2012); ‘MinD/ Body’, DUCTAC’s Gallery of Light, Dubai (2013); and most recently ‘Noah’s Ark’, the Emirates Fine Arts Society 34th Annual Exhibition in Sharjah (2016).

In 2015, his works were shown in the solo exhibition ‘New Works’ at the AB Gallery Lucerne and, in 2017, in the exhibition ‘Raw Cooked’ (AB43 CONTEMPORARY Zurich). In 2015, he participated in the museum exhibition ‘THERE ARE TOO MANY WALLS BUT NOT ENOUGH BRIDGES’ in the Kunstzeughaus Rapperswil/ Zurich. He has been awarded the Aoua’ad Al Sabah first prize at the third Al Kharafi Annual Exhibition in Kuwait, among many others. In 2013, he participated in ‘Emirati Expressions’, where he was one of six artists who pursued an unrealised project that they had always dreamed of creating.
